How to read these guides

This page takes two minutes and will save you time on every other page.

Every guide answers one question

Guides are named the way you would ask the question out loud — “book a job”, “set up a client”. If you know what you want to do, search for it in those words.

Guides are written for everyone, so some things differ

The platform is set up differently at every company. A guide that said “click the third option” would be wrong for half its readers, so instead each guide separates two kinds of information.

What’s always the same is behaviour that does not change no matter how your company is configured. You can rely on it.

What varies at your company is a short list of the things on that page that do depend on your setup — which options exist, what they are called, whether a step applies at all. Each entry says what decides it and, where possible, where to look it up.

Tip

If a guide does not match your screen, check that list first. Most mismatches are configuration, not error.

Menu paths

When a guide tells you where to click, it shows the path like this:

Menus do occasionally get reorganised. Every path used in these guides is recorded in one place — Where to find things — along with when it was last confirmed. If a path is wrong, telling whoever maintains these guides fixes it everywhere at once.

Things we have not confirmed yet

These guides are written from the working software, not from assumptions. Where something has not been confirmed, the guide says so rather than guessing.

That means you will occasionally see a note admitting an open question. That is deliberate. A gap you can see is far less costly than a confident sentence that turns out to be wrong.
