Notifications, notes and templates
Two different things get called “notifications”, and telling them apart makes the rest straightforward.
Notes are written on a job — by your staff, or by the system when something changes. They are a record attached to that job, and each note has a type that decides who can see it.
Notifications are messages sent out — to a customer, a courier, or your own people — when something happens to a job.
This page is about the second kind.
Where they are configured
Section titled “Where they are configured”Everything that shapes an outgoing message lives in one place: .
It holds four things, and they do different jobs:
| Tile | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Custom Templates | Message layouts you build yourself |
| Global Notification Templates | The standard messages that ship with the system |
| Job Status Notification Templates | The message sent when a job reaches a particular status |
| Job Status Notification Types | The list of statuses that can trigger a message |
Template versus trigger
Section titled “Template versus trigger”The distinction worth holding on to: a template is only the appearance of a message. It says what the thing looks like — the heading, the blocks of information, the logo, the page size.
Something else decides when it goes out. For status messages that is the notification type — the job status that fires it. A template on its own sends nothing.
So building a notification is two steps: make the layout, then attach it to the event that should send it.
Custom templates
Section titled “Custom templates”A custom template is defined by a template type, a name, a page size, a logo, and styling for a header plus five information sections. You build the layout once and reuse it.

- Likely to change
- medium — Note types were being reworked at the end of July to add separate control over what couriers see. That affects notes rather than notification templates, but the two are easy to confuse and the boundary may move.

- What conditions a custom template can be triggered on — the template screen defines layout (type, name, page size, header and five information styles, logo). What fires it was not established from the template screen alone.
- Whether customer-facing notifications are configured here or per client.
